BOSTON, Mass. - The No. 15 Boston University women's ice hockey team posted a 2-1 victory over Maine on Friday afternoon at Agganis Arena.

The first frame got off to a slow start until freshman Lola Reid lit the lamp for BU for the second game in a row. BU capitalized on its momentum when it added its second goal shortly thereafter thanks to junior Lilli Welcke. Despite Maine finding the back of the net 17 seconds later, the Terriers fended off the Black Bears through the remaining two frames to earn the 2-1 win.

Senior goaltender Callie Shanahan made 14 saves in the win as BU held Maine to 15 shots on goal.


HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The first frame got off to a slow start with BU going on the power play 5:59 into the game but nothing came of the extra skater advantage.

- At the 12:14 mark, graduate student Julia Shaunessy passed to Reid in the slot as she fired the puck into the back of the net from the crease.

- BU made it 2-0 just under a minute later when junior Riley Walsh found junior Luisa Welcke at the goal line who passed it back to the low slot for Li. Welcke to score.

- Maine got on the board seventeen seconds later, closing in on BU's 2-1 lead with the last goal of the game.

- BU went on the power play four more times and Maine went on the power play three times through the remainder of the game, but both teams successfully killed the penalties.

- The Black Bears pulled their goalie with 1:33 to go in the third but BU fended off their advances to secure the 2-1 win.


GAME NOTES

- BU outshot Maine 38 to 15. Maine's 15 shots were the fewest BU has allowed in a game this season.

- The Terriers were 3-for-3 on the penalty kill and 0-for-5 on the power play.

- BU won 43 of the 53 faceoffs in the game.

- Maine blocked 13 shots to BU's seven.

- Reid led BU in shots with seven.

- BU improves to 2-0-1 against Maine at Agganis Arena.
