PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The No. 8 ranked UConn women's hockey team defeated the Providence Friars, 3-2 on Friday afternoon at Schneider Arena. The Huskies improve to 3-0 in Hockey East and 4-3 overall.
UConn goaltender Tia Chan made her fourth start of the season for the Huskies. The senior from Hamiltion, Ontario made 28 saves in the win.
UConn jumped out to an early 1-0 off the stick of sophomore forward Ashley Allard. The Ottawa, Ontario native found the back of the net for the first time this season, giving the Huskies an early lead seven minutes into the first period.
UConn went into the first intermission with the lead, as shots were in favor of Providence 15-12.
Just 35 seconds into the second period, junior forward Megan Woodworth extended UConn's led to 2-0, scoring her second goal of the season.
Providence responded scoring two goals to close out the second period, making it even at 2-2 heading into the third period.
UConn forward Martha Mobarak put the Huskies in front for good, scoring her first career goal and the game winner three minutes into the third period.
