DURHAM, N.H. - Sophomore forward Marty Lavins (Riga, Lativa) scored two goals as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team defeated Stonehill, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon in the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex in an exhibition game.

- The Wildcats will start the 2024-25 season on Saturday, Oct. 12 versus Bentley at 7 p.m. on Opening Night at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex for a Breast Cancer Awareness Game. HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Junior forward Morgan Winters (Osprey, Fla.) opened the scoring 8:04 into the first period tapping in a backdoor goal from a beautiful pass from behind the goal line from sophomore forward Ryan Conmy (Alexandria, Va.). The goal was also assisted by senior defenseman Jack Babbage (Tully, N.Y.).
- The second Wildcat goal came 12:31 into the first period from a highly-skilled tip in by Lavins on a shot from the point by graduate student alternate captain Nikolai Jenson (Cold Spring, Minn.).
- The third UNH goal was a shorthanded goal 4:02 into the second period. It was scored by senior forward Liam Devlin (Needham, Mass.) which came through an absolute snipe in the top of the slot. The goal was assisted by senior defenseman Colton Huard (Foothill Ranch, Calif.), with an exceptional stretch pass through the neutral zone, and senior alternate captain Connor Sweeny (North Andover, Mass.).
- Stonehill then got onto the scoreboard 2:36 into the third period by way of a short side goal by Conor Ronayne.
- Lastly 19:36 into the third period Lavins put an exclamation point on the Wildcat victory with an empty net goal assisted by Winters and senior captain Alex Gagne (Bedford, N.H).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- UNH outshot Stonehill, 33-18.
- The Wildcats went 0-5 on the power play, while the Skyhawks went 0-7.
- Wildcat junior goaltender Jared Whale (Calgary, Alberta) saved all 12 shots he faced while senior Rico DiMatteo (Brasher Falls, N.Y.) saved five of the six he faced. For the Skyhawks Connor Androlewicz saved seven of 10 shots faced, while Linards Lipskis saved all 16 shots he faced.
