BOSTON - A full-team effort led the No. RV/20 Northeastern Huskies to a 4-0 shutout over Merrimack College to advance to the Hockey East Quarterfinals.
- Directly off the faceoff just 3:15 into the opening frame, junior Justin Hryckowian won the draw back to senior Alex Campbell. Taking a few strides into the slot, Campbell rung one in for the early 1-0 lead.
- The Huskies would go on to score two unanswered goals in the second period, beginning with a snipe by sophomore Vinny Borgesi. With great awareness in the offensive zone, Campbell connected with Borgesi across ice for a bury from just inside the blueline. Freshman Dylan Hryckowian picked up the secondary on Borgesi's fifth goal of the season.
- With under four minutes left in the middle frame, another Northeastern defenseman extended the lead to 3-0. Graduate student Pito Walton cleaned up a loose play in front of the crease to recorded his fifth goal of the year as well. The Hryckowian brothers, Dylan and Justin, tallied the assists.
- After a forced turnover in the defensive zone, beginning with Campbell, the Hryckowian duo took off on a breakaway for an empty-net goal in the final minutes of the third period. With the goal, Dylan Hryckowian picked up his 32nd point of the year, becoming the first freshman to have a 30-point season since Adam Gaudette during the 2015-16 season, while Justin Hryckowian recorded his third point of the night.
- Freshman goaltender Cameron Whitehead finished the game with 22 saves in 60 minutes of action. With the 4-0 shutout, the Ontario native tied the program record for shutouts by a freshman in a single season, in company with Cayden Primeau (2017-18) and Brad Thiessen (2006-07).
- Additionally, sophomore Hunter McDonald led the Huskies with three blocks, while Justin Hryckowian led both teams with 15 faceoff wins.
