PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The No. 11/10 men's hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie with conference opponent Northeastern University on Saturday (Mar. 9) at Schneider Arena. Hudson Malinoski and Bennett Schimek each connected in the 2-1 shootout victory, earning an extra conference point for the Friars. With the result, Providence earned a bye to the quarterfinal round of the Hockey East Tournament, where they'll faceoff against UMass on Saturday, March 16. Location and time are to be determined.

NOTES

- Neither team's offense could find the back of the net through the first twenty minutes, resulting in a 0-0 score. The Friars outshot the Huskies 13-9 in the opening period.

- The Friars opened the scoring at 3:20 into the second period, as Nick Poisson tipped an Andrew Centrella shot from the blue line into the back of the net. Tanner Adams also earned an assist on the goal from Poisson.

- It looked like the Huskies found the equalizer just over a minute later, but following a challenge from the Friars' bench, Northeastern's goal was called back for goaltender interference.

- The Huskies regained their goal midway through the middle frame, as Alex Campbell got past Svedebäck on a wrist shot up close to tie the affair at 1-1.

- With just over three minutes to go in the second period, Bennett Schimek found Luke Krys on the blue line, who fired a shot through the defensive coverage and into the back of the net to re-gain the Friars lead, putting them ahead 2-1.

- The Huskies tied the game with under a minute to play in the second period, as forward Alex Campbell netted his second of the afternoon to lock the game at 2-2.

- Providence re-gained the lead just under two minutes into the third period, as Tanner Adams found Nick Poisson from across the Northeastern zone for the forward's second goal of the afternoon. Luke Krys also earned an assist on his feed to Adams.

- Northeastern found their third tying goal of the game midway through the third period, as Alex Campbell netted his third score of the afternoon while on the power play to deadlock the Friars and Huskies at 3-3.

- Neither team could break through in three on three overtime, resulting in the 3-3 final score.

- The Friars emerged victorious in shootout, earning an extra point in the Hockey East standings. Forwards Hudson Malinoski and Bennett Schimek each netted successful attempts en route to Providence's 2-1 shootout win.

- Five Friars tallied a point in the tie, headlined by two point performances from Nick Poisson (2-0-2), Luke Krys (1-1-2), and Tanner Adams (0-2-2).
