BOSTON, Mass. - The Northeastern men's hockey team secured the series split with the Vermont Catamounts as they skated to a 3-1 win on Saturday night with goals coming from three different skaters.
- With much back-and-forth action, the Huskies and the Catamounts remained scoreless through 20 minutes of play.
- Breaking the drought first was Northeastern as they took a 1-0 lead in the first four minutes of the second period. Senior Alex Campbell began the Huskies rush as he connected with sophomore Vinny Borgesi in the neutral zone. A smooth back pass from Borgesi found junior Matt Choupani open for his second tally of the season.
- Momentum continued for the Huskies as they doubled their advantage, 2-0, just under two minutes later. As sophomores Cam Lund and Jack Williams battled at the boards, Lund quickly fed the puck to freshman Dylan Hryckowian for a one-timer from the right dot to close out the middle frame.
- Vermont scored their first of the game to start the third period at the 2:38 mark, making it a 2-1 game.
- While the Catamounts tried to claw back, the Huskies sealed the victory with an empty-net goal by senior Gunnarwolfe Fontaine to make it 3-1.
- In an outstanding effort, freshman Cameron Whitehead totaled 31 saves in 59:35 minutes of play.
- Choupani and Hryckowian both tallied a team-high four shots on the evening, while Williams led the Huskies with ten faceoff wins.
Northeastern will gear up for a stand-alone game next weekend as the welcome the UMass Minutemen to Matthews Arena on Sat., Jan. 20th.
