Orono, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team topped #14 Northeastern Friday night with an overtime game-winning goal from Ida Kuoppala.
After 60 minutes of scoreless play in regulation, the Black Bears and Huskies headed to overtime. Just one minute and 11 seconds into the overtime period, Ida Kuoppala fired a wrist shot over Northeastern's goaltender Gwyneth Philips. Freshman forward Mikayla Boarder picked up the assist.
Kuoppala's game-winner accounts for her 16th goal this season. Maine netminder Jorden Mattison earned her sixth career shutout, her second this season, after making 21 saves for the Black Bears.
Maine went 4-for-4 on the penalty kill and outshot Northeastern 31 to 21.
