Box Score

ORONO, Maine - Senior Lacey Martin scored her second goal of the game with 2:36 remaining to lift the Boston University women's ice hockey team to a 4-3 road victory over Maine on Monday evening at Alfond Arena.

BU was playing for the first time in 30 days and pushed its win streak to three games and its unbeaten streak to four (3-0-1). The Terriers never trailed in the game and also got goals from sophomore Luisa Welcke and freshman Alex Law.

Freshman Mari Pietersen made a season-high 23 saves in goal as BU improved to 9-8-2 overall and 7-6-1 in Hockey East play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- After a sluggish start on both ends of the ice, the Terriers earned the first power play of the contest and took full advantage of it.

- Sophomore Lilli Welcke took a pass from senior Andi Calderone and then found her sister all alone in the slot for a one-timer that she buried for a 1-0 at 15:23 of the first.

- Maine tied the game at 5:15 of the second when Ann-Frederique Guay punched in a rebound at the crease.

- It did not take long for BU to regain the lead as senior Catherine Foulem picked off a Maine clearing attempt before leaving a drop pass for Law, who sniped a shot from the left dot that popped up Maine netminder Julia Bachetti's water bottle just 2:34 after Maine got on the board.

- The Terriers once again converted on the power play, this time to take a 3-1 lead, as a deflected attempt by sophomore Brooke Disher made its way to Martin, who was all alone in the foot of the right circle to cash in with 1:41 left in the second.

- Maine, however, would get back to within one before the second intermission as Rahel Enzler scored off a 2-on-1 rush with just 22 seconds left in the second.

- The Black Bears made it a 3-3 affair 2:35 into the third when Mikayla Boarder took advantage of a BU turnover at the left point and skated in on a breakaway up the right side before lifting the puck past the reach of Pietersen as she approached the far post.

- The decisive goal came after Maine won a puck battle at center ice as sophomore Maeve Kelly quickly stopped the Black Bears' attempt to get the puck deep in the BU zone and then slipped a pass to Martin through traffic.

- Martin went wide to the left and used her speed to get around a Maine defender and slide through the top of the crease before tucking a backhand to the back of the net.

- Maine pulled Bachetti for the final 1:38 but Pietersen stopped the only two shots she faced the rest of the way to secure the victory.

- Martin upped her team-leading point total to 18 to match her output from last season.

- BU held a 30-26 advantage in shots with Bachetti making 26 saves for the Black Bears.
