BOSTON - The Northeastern University women's ice hockey team (11-8-0, 7-6-0 Hockey East) defeated the Boston University Terriers (6-8-1, 4-6-0 Hockey East) in overtime by a score of 2-1 at Walter Brown Arena on Friday evening.
Trailing 0-1 late in the third period, a game-tying goal from Ella Blackmore and a game-winner from Skylar Irving in the final minute of overtime lifted the Huskies to their third straight victory.
- Neither offense was able to get on the scoreboard in the opening frame - NU outshot BU 9-7 in the first period.
- The Terriers opened the scoring 8:13 into the second period on a breakaway.
- Northeastern responded with just 4:25 remaining in the third when Blackmore broke out of the d-zone with Kristina Allard, with a give-and-go that allowed Blackmore to walk in to the crease and score the equalizer.
- With under one minute remaining in overtime, Irving collected the puck next to her own goal and broke out in a two-on-one with Peyton Anderson. Anderson's pass back to Irving left her all alone with the goaltender and she back-handed the puck into the net for the win.
- With the win, the Huskies have now won three games in a row, and have swept the regular-season series with BU, outscoring the Terriers 8-3.
After the winter break, Northeastern returns to action in 2024, traveling to Yale on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 6 p.m.
