BURLINGTON, Vt. - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team defeated No. 14 ranked Vermont by a score of 3-0.
Ida Kuoppala, Ashley Kokavec and Alyssa Wruble scored for the Black Bears, while netminder Julia Bachetti made 19 saves to earn her first career shutout. Six different Black Bears tallied assists on the three goals: Elise Morphy, Ava Stevenson, Haley Ryan, Abby Latorella, Rahel Enzler and Mira Seregély.
Kuoppala's goal came just over halfway through the first period for Maine's early lead. Kokavec and Wruble widened the lead in with second period goals, while the third period went scoreless.
The Black Bears killed off three penalties successfully, including a 5-on-3 scenario early in the third period. Maine outshot Vermont 29 to 19.
The two teams finish their weekend series Saturday, Nov. 18 with a 3 pm puck-drop at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
