ORONO, Maine - The UConn women's hockey team swept the weekend series against the University of Maine with a 3-1-win Saturday afternoon. Senior Jada Habisch scored two goals, while junior goaltender Tia Chan made 34 saves in the win.
UConn's offense continued to shine this weekend, as the Huskies once again opened the scoring. A Maine penalty gave UConn the skater advantage, and while on the power play, sophomore Brooke Campbell fired the puck past Maine netminder Jordan Mattison, to give UConn the one goal lead. The one goal lead was all the Huskies needed as Tia Chan and the UConn defense was able to lock down the Black Bears offense, and head into the period break with the one goal lead.
Maine came out firing in the second period however the Huskies were able to weather the storm and maintain the lead. Junior Tia Chan saved all 15 shots faced in the second period to keep the Black Bears off the score board.
In the third period, the Huskies offense found their stride again as senior Jada Habisch scored back-to-back goals to give UConn the three-goal lead. Maine was able to respond and find the back of the net late in the third period, but the two-goal lead would be enough as the Huskies came away with the win, and the weekend sweep.
With the win, UConn improved to 7-3-1 overall and 6-3-0 in Hockey East action. Up next for the Huskies will be a home and home series against the Holy Cross Crusaders. UConn will welcome Holy Cross to the Toscano Family Ice Forum on November 17 before traveling to Worcester on November 18.
