Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team defeated #14 Boston College in Friday's game by a score of 4 to 3.
Boston College started the game scoring two even-strength goals to take an early lead. Maine was outshooting the Eagles but couldn't get the puck behind Eagles' netminder Grace Campbell until fifty-seven seconds left in the period when sophomore Ava Stevenson picked up the rebound off Mira Seregely's shot for her first goal of the season.
The Maine Black Bears capitalized on a power play opportunity to tie the game when Ann-Frederique Guay found the back of the net from Alyssa Wruble's pass in front.
The Eagles again took the lead with an even-strength goal halfway through the second period. Maine responded shortly after when Ann-Frederique Guay struck again on a slip pass from Ida Kuoppala, who tallied the assist for her 100th career point.
Heading into the third period with three goals each, the Black Bears drew a penalty for a third power play opportunity. Ann-Frederique Guay tallied her third goal to win the game for Maine. Rahel Enzler earned up the assist.
Senior goaltender Jorden Mattison made 25 saves on 28 shots for Maine including a penalty shot save. The Black Bears were 2-for-3 on the power play and killed off all three penalties.
Maine takes on #14 Boston College again tomorrow at 3:30 pm at Conte Forum Arena.
