CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sophomore Cutter Gauthier and graduate student Jack Malone each scored a pair of goals to power No. 3 Boston College past No. 7 Michigan State 5-1 on Friday night in front of a sellout crowd at Kelley Rink.

The Eagles swept the two-game non-conference series and improved to 5-1-0 on the year, while the Spartans fell to 5-3-0 overall.

In addition to the multi-goal games from Gauthier and Malone, Mike Posma netted his first of the season to open the scoring. Gabe Perreault and Oskar Jellvik finished the night with two assists each, giving the Eagles four players with multi-point performances.

Freshman netminder Jacob Fowler recorded a season-high 38 saves, pushing his record to 5-1-0. Boston College was 2-for-4 on the power play and held Michigan State scoreless on three opportunities.

Posma opened the scoring at 13:28 of the first period when he followed Connor Joyce's left point shot and finished the second rebound under Trey Augustine's pads.

The Eagles extended their lead in the second period when Perreault entered the zone on the power play and dished a pass into the slot for Gauthier, who ripped a heavy snap shot that beat Augustine high glove side at 5:30.

Malone took over in the third period, helping the Eagles extend their lead to 4-0. Malone netted his first goal of the night on the power play when he took Perreault's pass from just outside the blue line and fired a shot under Augustine's glove inside the right post at 2:24. Andre ​​Gasseau forced a Spartan turnover and found Malone on the weak side for his second goal of the period at 8:53.

The Spartans pulled a goal back from Karsen Dorwart less than a minute later at 9:38 of the third.

Gauthier netted an empty-netter with 52 seconds left to seal the victory for the Eagles, giving him six goals in six games on the season.

Boston College and UMass Lowell meet for a home-and-home series next weekend, starting Friday at Conte Forum on NESN at 7 p.m. Saturday's matchup in Lowell begins at 6 p.m. and can be streamed on ESPN+ from the Tsongas Center.
