BOSTON, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team made its way to the city for game one at No.13 Northeastern. The Crusaders and the Huskies battled all the way through regulation to enter into Holy Cross's sixth overtime game of the season. The Crusaders pulled out the 1-0 win in OT for their second win in program history, the last time was in 2018.
After a scoreless three period, the Crusaders made their way to overtime for the second straight game and sixth of the season. Holy Cross went on the power-play with a Northeastern player sent to the box for hooking. Off of a faceoff win, senior forward Lilly Feeney moved the puck over to sophomore forward Alexis Perry who netted the game winning goal at 3:13.
Senior goalie Madison Beck had a standout performance between the pipes for the Crusaders to earn her second career shutout. She made a total of 40 saves in the competition, just seven shy of her career single-game save record.
"Just a really, really great gutsy effort by our team tonight. And that's one thing that we've talked about all year, is making sure we just continue to stay on pucks, continue to have big sticks, continue to work hard and make sure we're getting ourselves in good positions defensively. Then just sticking with it all game and playing a full 60 minutes. Then good things will happen and we talk about that," said head coach Katie Lachapelle. "Our team likes to play a little chaotic and a little messy and make things messy out there. We certainly did that. Our penalty kill was great. I thought our defense played fantastic. A lot of great things with our forwards. Madison Beck played out of her mind. We are really proud of her tonight and proud of this whole team. Alexis Perry sticking with it on that rebound and putting that goal in. It's just a really happy night for us and we're really excited for this win."

PLAYER QUOTES:
"I thought the team did very well this game. We pushed through every single period and then we got to overtime. We've been there before and we just finished it off and won the game. And it's the first time since 2018, so it felt really good. I knew there wasn't that much time left on the clock, so I just wanted to win the draw and see what I could do. And then Feener was tied up the girl, and then I just got the puck and slipped it in." #21 Alexis Perry
"I thought our team played really well today. We built with each period and each period that we went on, we cleaned up our D-zone, and that was a huge part of what got us to the win today. We were popping puck with our sticks. We were making huge blocks throughout the game, and we were just being aggressive and it was taking away their time and space and gave us the opportunity to not only shut them out, but try to generate some offense through the game. Obviously, we didn't end up scoring till overtime, but it really doesn't matter when, as long as we get the win at the end of the day. This was very exciting to get my second career shutout, especially considering I had been injured my senior year of high school and then Covid hit. I essentially didn't play for two years and kinda wondered whether I'd ever come back the same. So being able to accomplish something like this is huge for me. It really didn't feel like I had that many shots throughout the game. I think I was just so focused in, that I took it period by period." #29 Madison Beck
"Our team played with a lot of grit and determination tonight. I thought our first period we were on our heels a bit, but Maddie Beck shut them down which kept us in the game. We started the second period strong and carried that momentum into the third. We stuck to our systems, played as a unit, and played with a lot of heart. We were playing for something bigger than ourselves tonight and we're determined to get Coach Katie a win. We had contributions all over the ice, and it was truly a result of the entire team's efforts. I'm excited that Perry was able to finish in front for the win." #22 Lilly Feeney
"Obviously this is Northeastern, the big opponent. So we came out flying, we came out ready and we were playing for more than just ourselves here. We battled through hard and blocked shots. Took us a little bit to start getting pucks to the net, but once we did it was great. We've been in overtime so much and we finally were able to get one through." #7 Casey Borgiel
