North Andover, Mass. - The Merrimack Warriors Men's hockey team took the lead early and never looked back as they opened the newly renovated Lawler Arena in style, posting a 4-1 victory on Friday night.


The Basics

Merrimack (1-2-0, 0-0-0): 4, Clarkson (2-3-0, 0-0-0): 1

Attendance: 2,947

Merrimack brought the crowd to its feet as Matt Copponi took the puck front his own end, through the Clarkson defenders and deked past the opposing goaltender to put the Warriors up 1-0.

Merrimack socred their second of the contest off a faceoff and Mark Hillier won the draw to Christian Felton who slid it back door to Mac Welsher who made no mistake, doubling the advantage.

Clarkson would score the quarters of the way through the second period but Merrimack would re add the insurance goal as Tyler Young recorded his first point on a slick pass to Chase Stevenson who put the puck in the open net to make the score 3-1, Stevenson would then score the empty net goal to bring the curtain down on this very special night.
