Orono, ME - The University of Maine men's ice hockey defeated the University of New Hampshire Wildcats in the Buffalo Wild Wings Border Battle on Saturday evening, 3-2.
The first line of Maine's offensive unti got going early in the contest as Josh Nadeau scored the opening goal of the game at 6:41. His score came on a one-time shot off of a feed by his brother, Bradly Nadeau and a set up by Lynden Breen.
Following a quite second period, Maine got on the board for the second time on the night on a power play goal just 20 seconds into the third period. Breen tallied the goal on a quick one-timer in front of the net off of a feed by Josh Nadeau and a set up by Bradly Nadeau.
New Hampshire rallied back with a pair of goals at 6:46 and 16:36 before the Black Bears found the back of the net for the final time on the evening with 1:50 remaining in the contest. David Breazeale set up a 2-0 opportunity as he intercepted a pass in the defensive zone and flipped it out to a wide open Breen who set up Josh Nadeau for the game-winning score.
Victor Ostman tallied 22 saves on 24 attempts in net for the Black Bears.
Maine looks towards the home-opener on Thursday, Oct. 12 and Friday, Oct. 13 as they host RPI as a part of Homecoming at the University of Maine. Both games will begin at 7 P.M. and tickets are still available by visiting: goblackbears.com
