NOTES
- The Providence penalty kill outlasted an extended 5-on-3 for Michigan but the Wolverines' Josh Eernisse converted on a breakaway as the penalty expired to give the hosts a 1-0 lead in the first period.
- Nick Poisson answered just 56 seconds later with a power-play goal on a re-direction from a Luke Krys shot from the point. Bennett Schimek earned the secondary assist on the play.
- Riley Duran gave the Friars a 2-1 lead at 8:13 of the second period as he converted on an odd-man rush with Cal Kiefiuk. Cam McDonald earned an assist on the play along with Kiefiuk.
- Liam Valente cashed in for the Friars just over four minutes later to extend the lead to 3-1. Jaroslav Chmelar and Connor Kelley assisted on the play.
- Providence struck early in the third period on the power play as Bennett Schimek fired a one-timer over the shoulder of West to make it a 4-1 game. Kiefiuk and Krys each earned their second assists of the night on the play.
- Michigan's Gavin Brindley scored with 7:32 remaining in the third to cut the Friars lead to 4-2.
- Goaltender Philip Svedebäck stood tall down the stretch as the Wolverines pushed to draw closer in the final minutes with an empty net.
- Duran led the way with a game-high eight shots on goal.
- The Friars improve to 11-2 in season-openers under Nate Leaman and 5-2 on the road in openers.
