Holy Cross Edged By Union In Overtime, 4-3

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team took on Union for the second game of their two-game series. For the second straight night the game was pushed past regulation and into overtime where Union took the 4-3 win.

In the first period, Holy Cross had another strong start with freshman Reghan Chadwick getting the Crusaders on the board at 5:43 for her second goal of the season. Union responded with a goal of their own for the 1-1 result. Sophomore Lane Lewis sneaked a goal past the goalie for her first career goal assisted by sophomore Alexia Moreau and senior Millie Sirum. At the end of the period Holy Cross led the Chargers 2-1.

In the second period, Union equalized with a power-play goal to tie the game 2-2. At the 18:42 mark, the Chargers scored to take the lead for the first time in the game to end the period.

Sirum opened the period with a game tying goal at 2:50 assisted by Lewis and Moreau. After time expired in regulation play, the teams were sent into overtime for the second night in a row. Union took the game and the series, scoring at 1:29 for the 4-3 win.


HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Crusaders struck first with Chadwick scoring an unassisted goal at 5:43 in the first period. Union answered with a goal at 9:00 to make it a 1-1 game. Lewis took the lead back for Holy Cross at 18:05 assisted by Moreau and Sirum.

- The Chargers equalized the score at 11:52 in the second period and took the 3-2 lead at the 18:42 mark.

- Holy Cross tied the game up in the third period with Sirum scoring early at 2:50 assisted by Lewis and Moreau.

- Union scored the winning goal at 1:29 in overtime

- Holy Cross led the Chargers in shots 49-40


BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

- Chadwick is now Holy Cross's leading scorer

- Lewis scored her first career goal

- Sirum netted her first goal of the season

- Moreau had two assists on the day

- Brooke Loranger made 22 saves to 40 shots faced on the day.
