Syracuse, N.Y.-The Merrimack Warriors Women's hockey team needed overtime but they picked up the win as Alex Ferguson scored the winner to give the Warriors a 2-1 win on Friday night.
Merrimack jumped out to the early lead as Celine Tedenby tipped in the original shot by Emily Oosterveld at 3:49 into the opening period, and Merrimack would that lead into the second.
The Warriors were able to outshot the Orange 16-8 in the second period but the score remained 1-0 after 40 minutes.
Syracuse was able to tie the score in the third and with neither team able to break the deadlock, the game went to overtime.
In the overtime, Merrimack was able to find the winner out of a net mouth scramble as Mary Edmonds original was turned away but right on to the stick of Alex Ferguson who potted the winner at 1:44 of the frame.
