EAST MEADOW, N.Y. - Powered by a three-point performance from Peyton Anderson, the No. 5 Northeastern women's hockey team defeated the LIU Sharks, 6-0, on Friday night at Northwell Health Ice Center.
Netminder Gwyneth Philips posted a 17-save shutout, her second of the season. Five Huskies including Peyton Anderson, Molly Griffin, Kristina Allard, Allie Lalonde and Skylar Irving, posted multi-point performances.
- It was the freshmen who took control of the first period with Lalonde and Peyton Compton putting the Huskies up 2-0. Lalonde got her first career goal with assists from Irving and Peyton Anderson.
- Compton then doubled the lead, stealing a puck from LIU and taking it in unassisted for her second career goal.
- Anderson got her first goal in the second frame to put Northeastern up 2-0. Irving claimed her second assist of the night on the play, and Griffin recorded her first.
- The Huskies' offense came alive with a three-goal third period to bring the final score to 6-0. Allard potted her first career goal at the 10:05 mark of the third period, with assists from Becca Vanstone and Griffin.
- Peyton Anderson tallied her second goal of the night on the power-play with assists from Lalonde and Carter. Allard closed out the scoring with her second career goal with helpers from Mia Langlois and Lily Shannon.
- Gwyneth Philips' shutout was the 18th of her career.
Northeastern will close out the two-game series against LIU on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Northwell Health Ice Center.
