BOSTON – Andre Gasseau answered No. 5 Boston University's third period tying goal 27 seconds later with the eventual game-winner and Boston College earned a 4-2 victory on Monday in the Consolation Game of the 70th Beanpot at TD Garden.
Gasseau (1-1-2), Eamon Powell (1-1-2) and Cutter Gauthier (0-2-2) finished with multi-point games and the Eagles improved to 10-12-6 following their final non-conference game of the season.
Nikita Nesterenko handed the Eagles a 1-0 lead just 1:52 into the contest as the junior took a drop pass from Oskar Jellvik and cut into the slot before beating Drew Commesso glove side.
Powell doubled the lead on the power play at 11:45, sending a center point one-timer from Gauthier off a BU skate near the right post for his fourth of the year.
The Terriers pulled a goal back a minute and eight seconds later when Ryan Greene snuck a shot through the pads of Mitch Benson from the right circle.
Gasseau began the second with a clean breakaway, but Commesso reached out with his left pad to deny the rookie at the right post. Benson later made a point-blank stop on Luke Tuch with his right pad to preserve the lead.
BU tied the game at 8:16 of the third as Jay O'Brien finished a loose puck at the right doorstep, but Gasseau answered just 27 seconds later. The freshman received a pass from Gauthier and skated into the left wing circle before firing a shot off Commesso's glove into the right corner.
The Terriers pulled Commesso for an extra attacker with two minutes remaining, but Trevor Kuntar sealed the win on an empty-netter with four seconds left.
BC out-shot BU 27-23 and won the faceoff battle 31-17.
