ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine men's ice hockey team defeated the #17/#16 Providence College Friars, 3-0, on Saturday evening in the Alfond Arena.

First Goal (1-0 Maine): While on the first power play opportunity of the series finale, Lynden Breen scored the go-ahead goal for the Black Bears. The lone goal of the first period was set up after Luke Antonacci carried the puck along the farside boards and dished it to Thomas Freel. Breen received a pass that was put on a cloth's line through the Friars' defense. At the end of 20:00, Maine held a 1-0 lead.

The second period skated to a scoreless 20:00. Ostman stopped 19 shots in the frame to keep a 1-0 lead for his squad.

Second Goal (2-0 Maine): As was the case with the first tally of the night, the Bears second goal came way via the power play. Donavan Villeneuve-Houle struck the puck with the heel of his stick. The shot lost the majority of its velocity and kept the Friars' netminder off balance. At the 9:19 mark of the third period, Maine held a 2-0 lead.

Third Goal (3-0 Maine): Didrik Henbrant scored the final goal of the night. The forward scored on an empty Providence net. It was the final goal of the night as Maine completed the sweep.

Notes: Victor Ostman saved 29 shots in net for the Black Bears, while Philip Svedeback stopped 32 shots between the pipes for Providence College.

Maine went 2 for 4 on the power play, as the Friars were 0-3 on its player advantages.

Next: The Black Bears return to the ice next Friday, February 3 for a single game against Boston University. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
