UConn Edged by Quinnipiac, 4-3, in CT Ice Tournament Final

HAMDEN, Ct. - The UConn Huskies fall to no. 3 Quinnipiac in the CT Ice championship game by a final score of 4-3. Justin Pearson, Samu Salminen, and Hudson Schandor were the goal scorers for the Huskies.

Quinnipiac opened the scoring early as they capitalized on a hooking penalty by Roman Kinal. UConn didn't take long to respond as Justin Pearson picked up the loose puck and fired a shot past Quinnipiac netminder Yaniv Peters for the equalizing goal. With time running down in the first period Quinnipiac scored to retake the lead heading into the period break.

The second period was a defensive battle from puck drop. UConn relied heavily on their special teams in the second period as the Huskies went on the power play twice during the period and penalty kill once. UConn found the equalizer midway through the second period when senior Jake Flynn took the puck the length of the ice before finding Freshman Samu Salminen for the goal. With time running down in the second period, UConn took their first lead of the game when Hudson Schandor crashed the net and took a pass from Justin Pearson. Freshman Arsenii Sergeev made eight total saves in the period to keep UConn in front heading into the period break.

Quinnipiac found the equalizer on a power play early in the third period. The Bobcats regained the lead with 4:31 left in the third period. Yaniv Perets for the Bobcats made 25 saves in the third period to blank the Huskies.

With the win, Quinnipiac takes home their second consecutive CT Ice championship and improves to 20-3-3 on the season. With the loss UConn falls to 16-8-3 on the season.
