Graduate forward Grace Heiting scored two minutes into overtime for the Black Bears

Orono, ME - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team defeated #14 UConn in a 5-4 overtime victory.

First Goal (1-0 UConn): Only 25 seconds into the game, UConn would strike first. Jada Habisch grabbed the puck and skated down the ice to secure the early goal.

Second Goal (1-1 Maine): Maine would answer just a 1:22 after UConn's goal with Ava Stevenson scoring her first collegiate goal. Lilli Welcke connected in stride with her sister Luisa Welcke. Luisa Welcke continued the push down the ice into the back left side of the net where she passed back and across to Ava Stevenson who was there to slap in the one timer goal.

Third Goal (2-1 Maine): 8:10 into the first period Anna Caumo would also score her first collegiate goal for the Black Bears. Caumo stole the puck from UConn and began the push down the ice. Caumo then had a beautiful backwards pass to Ally Trimper who fired the puck down towards the net. Caumo found the puck from Trimper and pushed it in for the goal.

Fourth Goal (2-2 UConn): The Huskies tied things up 18:10 into the first period with a goal from Kyla Josifovic. Camryn Wong, Camryn and Riley Grimley each picked up an assist.

Fifth Goal (3-2 Maine): Ally Johnson took back the lead for the Black Bears 3:56 into the second period. Ida Kuoppala stole the puck from a UConn skater and passed it to Johnson who slapped the puck in.

Sixth Goal (4-2 Maine): 13:07 into the second, the Black Bears extended their lead. Ally Johnson won a faceoff for Maine, finding Ida Kuoppala who fired the puck into the net.

Seventh Goal (4-3 UConn): 16:32 into the second UConn would answer with a goal from Claire Peterson. Coryn Tormala and Kate Thurman each picked up an assist.

Eighth Goal (4-4 UConn): Coryn Tormala scored one of her own 18:41 into the second to tie the game. Tormala scored the power play goal with an assist from Kate Thurman. With no goals scored in the third period, this sent the game into overtime.

Ninth Goal (5-4 Maine): Grace Heiting won the game for Maine two minutes into overtime. Heiting stole the puck at center ice and skated down finding the back of the net.
