New Hampshire Falls Short Against Union, 3-2

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Wildcats trailed 3-0 after the first period, but sophomore forward Liam Devlin (Needham, Mass.) scored two in a row to shrink the lead, but Kevin Chauvette recorded 34 saves for the Dutchmen as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to Union, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink.  

UNH outshot Union 36-10 in the game and 72-27 over the two-game series.  

The Wildcats fall to 4-16-1, while the Dutchmen improve to 8-10-1.

    UP NEXT: Wildcats will return to action on Friday and Saturday,

- The Wildcats will play at Providence on Jan. 6 at 7 p.m. on ESPN+

- The Wildcats will then take on Sacred Heart on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 3 p.m. at the Whittemore Center on ESPN+ and there will be a postgame skate with the team.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- At 2:34 into the first period, after receiving a pass from Matt Allen from the face off dot, John Prokop shot above the left pad of freshman goalie Tyler Muszelik (Long Valley, N.J.) to put the Dutchmen on the board.

- Then at 12:11 off a shot from Nick Young, Liam Robertson deflected the puck past Muszelik.

- Shortly after at 14:10, Mason Snell fired the puck from the point to the left side of the net.

- At 11:03 of the second period, Devlin scored on a power play through the pads of Chauvette off a pass from sophomore defenseman Colton Huard (Foothill Ranch, Cali.) at the left face-off dot.

- Freshman defenseman Damien Carfagna (Wood-Ridge, N.J.) also tallied an assist on the goal.

- Devlin scored again at 14:31 off a rebound of a shot by junior defenseman Nikolai Jenson (Cold Spring, Minn.) from the point.

- The Wildcats outshot the Dutchmen by an 11-3 margin in the third period but were unable to score the equalizer for the 3-2 final.

 


INSIDE THE NUMBERS

- Muszelik made seven saves, while Chauvette tallied 34 saves for the Dutchmen.

- UNH outshot Union, 36-10.
