PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Merrimack Warriors Men's Ice Hockey team came up with huge win in the Hockey East standings, as they were victorious by a score of 3-2 at the Schneider arena in Providence on Saturday night, and in process, they have tied for first place in the Hockey East standings with UConn with two games in hand.


The Basics

The Warriors didn't take long to get on the board in this one as Will Calverley won the faceoff right to Slava Demin who fired it in from the point at 52 seconds of the first period. 

In the second, the Warriors would go down a man but still find a way to score, the Warriors took advantage of misplay behind the Friars net and Ryan Leibold made Providence pay, burying the puck into the empty cage for a shorthanded goal and the lead was extended to two.

The Friars however would match the Warriors goal with a penalty kill at 10:30, and then tie the game up with a goal seven minutes later.

Heading into the third period tied, the Warriors didn't waste much time getting the lead back, Jordan Seyfert stormed into the zone and scored on the backhand to regain the lead just under four minutes in.

With the Warriors defending as Providence pushed for the tying goal, Zachary Borgiel made the save of the game, with under 30 seconds to go, Borgiel went across the crease, making an incredible one timer save, the Warriors were able to hold on from there, earning a huge win on the road.

Slava Demin, Ryan Leibold, and Jordan Seyfert all scored in the win

Will Calverley, Tristan Crozier and Mick Messner all had one assist in the win.

Zachary Borgiel made 23 saves to capture seventh win of the year.

Ryan Leibold's shorthanded goal was the first one since Mac Welsher's vs New Hampshire on Febuary 2nd 2022.

With the win, the Warriors now have five victories over ranked opponents this season.
