ANTIOCH, Tenn. - Powered by two goals apiece from graduate student Alina Mueller and sophomore Skylar Irving, the No. 8 Northeastern women's hockey team defeated No. 9 Cornell, 5-1, and won the Smashville Women's Collegiate Hockey Showcase on Saturday evening at the Ford Ice Center.

- The Huskies got a hot start and erupted for three goals in the first frame. Mueller potted her two goals of the game just 2:38 apart to open the scoring. Her first goal was assisted by junior Abbey Marohn and graduate student Maureen Murphy, while Murphy and graduate student Chloé Aurard claimed assists on Mueller's second tally.

- Irving then closed out the scoring in the first frame to push the Husky lead to 3-0. Her goal was assisted by freshman Lily Shannon.

- Cornell scored the lone goal of the second period to cut the deficit to 3-1.

- Northeastern once again found its scoring touch in the third frame with goals from freshman Holly Abela and Irving. Sophomore Taze Thompson and senior Katy Knoll assisted Abela's goal and sophomore Tory Mariano and Thompson assisted Irving's goal.

- Senior netminder Gwyneth Philips finished with 24 saves, while junior Lily Yovetich led the team with three blocks.

Next up, the Huskies will return to Matthews Arena to play their final games of 2022 with a series against No. 12/13 Vermont beginning on Friday, Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m.
