STORRS, Conn. - The women's ice hockey team took game one against #10 Providence in the home and home series tonight.

Period 1: Although Providence would strike first, UConn would bounce right back to respond to Rachel Weiss's goal for the Friars. Amy Landry answered by tying it up at one, meanwhile Jada Habisch and Brooke Campbell put together an aggressive offensive run to take the lead shortly after the first UConn goal. By the end of the first, UConn and Providence were trading shots, but the score would remain 2-1 UConn.

Period 2: The Huskies and the Friars would keep it dead even to begin the second period. UConn would head to the power play but would be held from scoring. Then, Providence would head to the power play as Kaitlyn Yearwood would head to the box for interference. UConn avoided the penalty as the Huskies would go back to even strength and keep the lead. UConn and Providence would go almost shot for shot in the third with 16 shots for Providence and 15 shots for UConn. The Huskies would still hold their ground after two with the 2-1 lead.

Period 3: Another even performance would play out in the third period. UConn would start out with the power play as Providence forward, Sara Hjalmarsson, headed to the box for delay of game. However, Providence avoided the penalty kill. Both goaltenders gave it their all as Providence goaltender, Sandra Abstreiter, had 13 saves and Tia Chan had a total of 25 saves on the night. UConn would keep it steady the rest of the way as they would come away with the win by a score of 2-1.
