Box Score

AMHERST, Mass. - Freshman Ryan Greene tallied two goals and three assists for a career-high five points as the No. 14 Boston University men's ice hockey team skated past No. 11/10 UMass, 7-2, on Friday night at Mullins Center.

BU (5-3-0, 3-2-0 HE) scored four goals in the second period en route to a 5-0 lead. UMass (5-4-1, 1-4-0 HE) scored two power-play goals to get within three early in the third, but the Terriers controlled play for the remainder of the game, adding two late goals to secure the three Hockey East points.

Freshman Quinn Hutson collected a career-high two goals as part of his career-best three-point night while his brother and classmate Lane Hutson added two assists. Seniors Wilmer Skoog and Matt Brown both lit the lamp, as did freshman Devin Kaplan. Junior Luke Tuch joined Lane Hutson with two assists while senior Sam Stevens had the primary helper on Brown's marker. Junior Drew Commesso made 20 saves and did not allow an even-strength goal to earn the win.

Skoog's first goal of the season was the highlight of the night, as he scored his fourth lacrosse goal as a Terrier.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Greene opened the scoring just 5:39 into the proceedings with a nifty breakaway goal. He forced a turnover at the blue line and was off to the races with only Luke Pavicich (18 saves) to beat. Greene faked a shot to get Pavicich to commit before lifting a backhander into the back of the net.

- Skoog wowed the crowd with his signature move just 1:18 into the second stanza. He intercepted a clearing attempt and took the puck down low. After losing his defender behind the net, Skoog converted the lacrosse goal, his first goal of the campaign.

- Quinn Hutson extended the lead to 3-0 midway through the stanza with a wicked wrist shot on the power play.

- Greene and Quinn Hutson scored 10 seconds apart to truly put the game out of reach at 5-0. First, the line of Tuch, Greene and Hutson moved beautifully in transition, with Tuch dishing to Greene who then passed to Hutson for the finish at the right post.

- Then, off the ensuing faceoff, Hutson and Tuch combined to find Greene, whose shot ricocheted off a UMass defender and past Pavicich.

- The Minutemen closed the second stanza and opened the third period with power play goals to cut the BU lead to 5-2.

- With the UMass net empty, Brown stretched the lead to 6-2 when he fired home a long-distance shot for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.

- Kaplan then added the extra point with 36 seconds remaining in regulation, knocking home a rebound off a Greene shot.
