PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Brett Berard capped a frantic comeback with an overtime goal as the No. 14 Providence College men's hockey team rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period to score a 4-3 overtime victory over No. 5 UMass on Saturday night at the Mullins Center. Providence earns five-of-six points on the weekend and sweep the Minutemen for the first time since 2017.

NOTES

- Providence once again struck first as senior Jamie Engelbert rushed through the neutral zone and wired a wrist shot past Pavicich for his second tally of the season to make it 1-0 Friars. Liam Valente and Max Crozier assisted on the play.

- Ryan Ufko knotted the game at 1-1 with a power-play goal at 15:03.

- UMass held a 13-5 advantage in shots through 20 minutes.

- The Minutemen took at 3-1 lead through two periods of play after second period goals from Michael Cameron and Mikey Adamson.

- Providence began to turn the momentum in the third and drew within one after Patrick Moynihan tallied his fourth goal of the season on the power play cut the deficit to 3-2.

- The Friars continued to push and got the equalizer just two minutes later as Brett Berard intercepted a pass behind the UMass net, attempted a wrap-around which bounced right to Parker Ford who finished it off for his third of the season to tie the game at 3-3.

- In overtime, Nick Poisson forced a turnover at the Providence blue line and sent Brett Berard in all alone on a breakaway. Berard beat Pavicich to the five-hole for his third goal of the weekend to cap the comeback for Providence.

- The Friars outshot the Minutemen 23-3 over the final 21:28 of play.
