Four-Goal Third Period Sends UConn To 5-1 Win Over Boston College

HARTFORD, Conn. - The UConn Huskies score four goals in the third period to take down Boston College Thursday night. Junior Ryan Tverberg would score two goals while sophomore Logan Terness would make 33 saves to propel the Huskies to victory.

UConn and Boston College both relied on defense and goaltending in the first period. Logan Terness would make a handful of saves in the first period including two back-to-back saves to hold the Eagles scoreless. Mitch Benson of Boston College would make 10 saves in the first period to hold UConn scoreless.

Boston College would get the scoring started in the second period as they would score on the power play to take the early 1-0 lead. Early in the second period following two consecutive penalties by the Huskies, Boston College would have a 5 on 3 man advantage. UConn would kill off the penalties, and as the penalty ended, Roman Kinal would find Harrison Rees coming out of the box for a breakaway attempt. Rees would fire the shot past the goaltender and even the score at one. Both teams would be held scoreless the rest of the period and as both teams would head to the third period tied at 1.

The third period would be all UConn as they would score four goals to take home the 5-1 victory. Hudson Schandor started the scoring spree early in the third period as he would take the pass from Tom Messineo and fire the one timer right past the goaltender. The UConn defense would stand strong as they would weather a Boston College rush to keep the one goal lead. With three minutes left in the third period, freshman Jake Percival would steal the puck at center ice and feed Ryan Tverberg who would take the puck on the breakaway and sneak it right past Mitch Benson for the goal. Boston College would pull their goalie for the extra skater, but the Huskies defense would once again stop the Eagles, and Roman Kinal would feed Matthew Wood who would find Ryan Tverberg for the empty net goal. UConn wouldn't stop there as Adam Dawe would block a pass and steal the puck at center ice and take it towards net before firing the shot for the goal. Sophomore Logan Terness would make 33 saves and with the win improves to 7-1-1 on the season.
