Maine Defeated By Quinnipiac, 6-2

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine men's ice hockey team was defeated by the #3 Quinnipiac University Bobcats, 6-2, on Sunday afternoon in Alfond Arena.

First Goal (1-0 #3 Quinnipiac): While on the first power play opportunity of the afternoon, the Bobcats found the back of the net. Desi Burgart found himself behind the Maine net. Victor Ostman and the penalty kill unit did not react to Burgart, and the forward gave his squad a very early 1-0 lead.

Second Goal (1-1): 1:37 of game play later, Brandon Holt tied the non-conference game at one goal apiece. After receiving a pass from Ben Poisson, the freshman defense released a puck from the blue line. The puck deflected off a Bobcat and into the net. Maine evened the game while on its first 5-on-4 of the contest.

Third Goal (2-1 #3 Quinnipiac): 00:45 into the second period, the Bobcats regained their one goal advantage. Skyler Brind'amour scored on a breakaway after his squad forced a turnover near the neutral zone. Catching the Black Bears in a line change, Quinnipiac scored with ease.

Fourth Goal (3-1 #3 Quinnipiac): Victor Czerneckinair second the third goal of the afternoon for the Bobcats. After fighting for the puck in the corner, Cristophe Tellier kicked the puck to his linemate. The latter found himself unmarked and took advantage. It was not the final goal of the frame for #3 Quinnipiac.

Fifth Goal (4-1 #3 Quinnipiac): With poor puck possession in the neutral zone by the Black Bears, Jacob Quillan and TJ Friedmann found themselves on a 2-on-1 breakaway. Friedmann touched the puck to Quillan who found the back of the net. It was not the final goal of the second period for the visitors.

Sixth Goal (5-1 #3 Quinnipiac): Waiting patiently in the far side face-off dot, Collin Graf buried a goal after receiving the puck from Charles-Alexis Legault. At the end of 40:00, Maine trailed 5-1.

Seventh Goal (5-2 #3 Quinnipiac): Cole Hanson, scoring his second goal in as many nights, scored a short-handed goal to open the third period. The comeback would be short lived.

Eighth Goal (6-2 #3 Quinnipiac): Jayden Lee added another goal for the Bobcats. It was the final goal of the night as Maine lost 6-2.


Notes:

Victor Ostman saved 26 shots in net for the Black Bears. Yaniv Perets recorded 29 saves between the pipes for Quinnipiac.

Maine went 1 for 5 on the power play, as the Bobcats were 1-5 on its player advantages.
