Box Score - Highlights

BOSTON - Senior Matt Brown tallied a career-high four points thanks to two goals and two assists to help lead the No. 9/11 Boston University men's ice hockey team to a 5-2 win over No. 14/13 UConn on Saturday night at Agganis Arena.

BU (3-2-0, 1-1-0 HE) bounced back from last night's overtime loss to earn a weekend split with UConn (6-1-1, 3-1-0 HE) and hand the Huskies their first loss of the season. The Terriers were the better team all night, outshooting UConn, 16-4, after 20 minutes and finishing with a 43-26 advantage in shots on goal.

Freshman Lane Hutson scored his first collegiate goal and added an assist to complete a two-point night while junior Dylan Peterson also scored his first goal of the season as part of a two-point outing. Senior Sam Stevens iced the game with an empty-netter from his own zone in the final seconds, while classmates Domenick Fensore, Jay O'Brien, Ethan Phillips and Wilmer Skoog each had one assist apiece.

Junior Vinny Duplessis made several nice stops, including two on breakaway chances, as part of his 24-save performance.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Hutson opened the scoring at the 14:32 mark of the opening period with a nifty backhander from between the circles. Peterson and Brown assisted on the marker.

- The Terriers took a 2-0 lead just 1:16 into the second stanza. A UConn defender got to a loose puck behind his own net, but Skoog intercepted the attempt to send the puck along the boards and out of the zone. Brown immediately got to the front of the net and one-timed Skoog's feed past Arsenii Sergeev (38 saves).

- UConn got within one thanks to a power-play goal just over seven minutes later, but the Terriers took advantage of a 5-on-3 to regain their two-goal edge. O'Brien dished the puck to Fensore at the bottom of the left circle, and the senior captain zipped a pass across the zone to Brown at the other circle. With Skoog creating havoc at the top of the crease, Brown was able to collect and fire the puck into the net before Sergeev got back in position.

- Peterson potted his first goal of the season to push the Terrier lead to 4-1. Brown and Hutson created a 2-on-1, with Brown sliding the puck to Hutson for a one-timer. Sergeev made an incredible save to rob Hutson of a second goal, but Peterson followed up and slotted home the rebound.

- Duplessis maintained the Terriers' three-goal cushion with his second breakaway stop of the weekend, this time denying Tristan Fraser.

- Ryan Tverberg got UConn within two with 4:31 remaining in regulation and nearly made it 4-3 with a shorthanded chance, but Duplessis was once again equal to the task.

- Stevens then put the game out of reach with 17.6 seconds on the clock thanks to an empty-netter.
