LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team fell to St. Lawrence 2-1, in the first game the Ice Breaker Tournament. The Crusaders fall to 2-5-0 on the year and remain 1-3-0 in Hockey East standings while the Saints move to 4-3-0 (0-0-0 ECAC).


HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Saints opened the scoring halfway through the second period with a goal from Aly McLeod.

- Senior forward Sofia Smithson tied the score with 4:40 left in the third. She was assisted by sophomore Emma Min and freshman Alexis Perry.

- Aly McLeod answered back for the Saints scoring her second goal of the game one minute later.

- Holy Cross went on the power play with just over a minute left in regulation and emptied the net. They were unable to capitalize on the 6-on-4 advantage.


BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

- The Crusaders struggled to find rhythm in the first period as they were outshot 5-11. After three periods, the Saints had 36 shots on goal while the Crusaders had 16.

- Min and Perry tallied their first points of the season while assisting on Smithson's goal.

- Nine skaters had at least one blocked shot for the Crusaders, totaling 16 on the night. Senior Kailey Langefels led the team with three. Holy Cross averages over fifty percent more blocked shots than their opponents with a season total 102.

- Junior goaltender Madison Beck tallied 34 saves on the night adding to her season total of 150. After five starts, she averages 2.73 goals-against with a save percentage of .926.


UP NEXT:

- Holy Cross returns to action Saturday, Oct. 22 when they play Syracuse in the third- place game at the Ice Breaker Tournament. Syracuse lost to #11 Clarkson 3-0 on Friday night during the semi-final round of the IBT. Puck drop is slated for 2 p.m.
