PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Chase Yoder notched three assists, while Riley Duran, Patrick Moynihan and Connor Kelley posted multi-point efforts as the No. 16 Providence College men's hockey team opened the 2022-23 regular season with a 6-1 win over Sacred Heart on Friday (Oct. 7) at Schneider Arena.

- The Friars were able to get through the first period scoreless after having to kill off a major penalty assessed to Taige Harding at 17:09.
- Solid work by Philip Svedebäck closed out the period as the freshman made five save during the Sacred Heart power play in the first period.
- Providence opened the scoring at 5:29 as Cody Monds finished off a rebound from Chase Yoder to make it 1-0.
- The Pioneers tied things up at 12:15 on a goal from Aidan Connolly.
- From there, the Friars found their momentum as they struck for four goals in a span of 4:09 to close the second period out with a 5-1 lead.
- Patrick Moynihan's one-timer on a power-play gave the Friars the lead they wouldn't relinquish.
- Riley Duran followed with his first of the season off a feed from Connor Kelley at 17:55.
- Freshman Bennett Schimek re-directed a Cam McDonald point shot for his first NCAA goal at 18:49.
- Jamie Engelbert closed out the scoring in the period with a goal at 19:35.
- Nick Poisson wrapped up the scoring for the Friars at 1:42 of the third period, beating goaltender Luke Lush who came in relief of starter Justin Robbins.
- Yoder registered a career-high three assists in the win.
- Providence improved to 10-2 in season-openers under Nate Leaman.
- The Friars limited the Pioneers to just seven shots on goal in the final 40 minutes, including two shots in the third period.
