PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Connecticut women's hockey team would shutout Providence College Saturday afternoon behind a 28 save performance from senior Samantha-Carpentier-Yelle. Graduate student Taylor Wabick and senior Danielle Fox would score for the Huskies to help secure the victory.

The First period began with UConn instantly gaining possession of the puck and attacking the Friar's zone. UConn would eventually find the back of the net two minutes into the start of the first period, but after review, the officials ruled a no goal, and the game remained scoreless. Following the ruling by the officials Providence would begin to attack the UConn defense and look to get on the board first. UConn's defense along with senior goaltender Samantha Carpentier-Yelle would hand multiple lengthy possessions by Providence and keep the game scoreless. Both teams would head into the locker room tied with Providence having 12 shots on goal to UConn's 11.

The second period was all Huskies. From the first puck drop, UConn would gain possession and pressure the Providence defense. UConn would have multiple possessions over one minute in the Friars zone. Early in the second period, an interference call would send Brooke Becker of providence to the penalty box giving UConn the player advantage. Shortly after the power play started, graduate student Taylor Wabick would fire the shot from the point right over the goaltender's shoulder to give UConn the 1-0 lead. UConn wouldn't let up as they would continue to put pressure and force turnovers. UConn's defense would remain strong through two periods, blocking a total of 16 shots to go along with 20 saves from senior Samantha Carpentier-Yelle.

The third period would begin with both teams playing strong defense and limiting scoring chances. UConn would look to extend their lead midway through the third period with multiple breakaway attempts, however the Providence goaltender would save each shot. With UConn's defense preventing any scoring chances, and senior Samantha Carpentier-Yelle making multiple saves, the Friars would pull their goaltender for a player advantage. Senior Danielle Fox would end up scoring on the empty net with 40 seconds left in the game to give UConn the two-goal lead and prevent any comeback by the Friars. UConn's defense would block 24 shots to go along with senior Samantha Carpentier-Yelle 28 saves.
