Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team registered two unanswered goals to earn a 2-1 victory over Holy Cross on Monday afternoon.

Maddie Giordano and Ida Kuoppala each tallied the goals for the Black Bears, who move to 7-13-1, 5-8-1 in Hockey East play on the year.

Carlie Magier gave the Crusaders a 1-0 edge with a power play goal, 4:09 into the first period.

Maine tied the contest, 15:55 into the second on Giordano's fourth of the season. Morgan Trimper sent the puck in behind the net where Jennifer Costa gathered it before shuffling it to the front of the net. Giordano ripped a shot that was pushed aside by quickly gathered her own rebound and found the back of the net, tying the game at 1-1.

The Black Bears took their first lead of the afternoon, 7:17 into the third. Rahel Enzler took control of a loose puck at cetner ice before shooting a pass back towards the Maine zone to Courtney Colarullo. Colarullo quickly moved the puck up to Kuoppala who split two defenders before sifitng a shot top shelf for what would be the eventual game-winner.

Maine and Holy Cross close out the series on Tuesday when they meet at Alfond Arena at 2 p.m.
