Box Score

BOSTON - The Boston University men's ice hockey team used goals from seven different skaters to roll past Arizona State, 7-1, on Friday evening at Agganis Arena in the opener of a weekend series.

Freshman Tristan Amonte opened the scoring with his first collegiate goal while juniors Matt Brown, Robert Mastrosimone and Jay O'Brien each tallied a goal an assist. A power-play goal by freshman Ty Gallagher proved to be the game-winner, and the Terriers sealed the victory with late goals from sophomore Dylan Peterson and junior Jamie Armstrong.

BU improves to 8-9-3 on the season and is now undefeated in its past five contests (4-0-1). The Sun Devils fall to 12-11.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- BU put 14 shots on goal in the opening period but settled for a 0-0 score heading into the first intermission.

- Tristan Amonte teamed up with his brother, Ty, and junior Ethan Phillips to open the scoring as the freshman buried a backhand near the right post for a 1-0 lead at 1:49 of the second period.

- On their first power-play chance of the contest, the Terriers doubled their lead when Mastrosimone found Gallagher near the right dot as the freshman blue liner went top shelf past ASU netminder Cole Brady midway through the second frame. Junior Wilmer Skoog also assisted on Gallagher's third goal of the campaign.

- The home squad earned a three-goal cushion before the end of the second on a highlight-reel goal by Mastrosimone, who stole the puck just inside the ASU blue line and skated in along the left side before executing two pass fakes and converting a backhand at the top of the crease.

- ASU got on the board at 9:18 of the third on a tally by Sean Dooghe to make it a 3-1 contest.

- BU wasted little time in regaining a three-goal advantage as O'Brien caused a turnover to create his own breakaway, which he scored on just over two minutes after the Sun Devils' goal.

- ASU pulled Brady in favor of an extra attacker with 3:47 to play and Peterson tallied an empty-netter just 14 seconds later, with Brown and junior Case McCarthy providing the assists.

- A roughing penalty put BU on the power play late and Brown found the back of the net to push the lead to 6-1 with 2:21 remaining. Sophomore Luke Tuch provided the primary helper on Brown's marker.

- Armstrong capped the scoring at the 18:06 mark for his first goal of the season.
