HANOVER, N.H. - No. 20 Boston College dominated from start to finish on New Year's Eve, coasting to a 6-1 victory over host Dartmouth to win the 32nd Ledyard Classic at Thompson Arena on Friday night.
BC claimed the Ledyard Classic title for the third time after winning the event in 2010 and 2014. The Eagles improved to 10-5-3 (5-3-2 HEA) and extended their unbeaten streak to six games (4-0-2) to close the calendar year.
Jack McBain scored twice for the second straight night and was named the Tournament MVP, pushing his season total to 13. Henry Wilder won the Top Goalie Award, picking up his second straight victory in net with 26 saves.
Boston College also received goals from Marc McLaughlin, Mike Posma, Marshall Warren and Jack St. Ivany. Drew Helleson registered a game-high three assists and was named to the All-Tournament Team with McLaughlin and St. Ivany.
BC stormed out to a 3-0 lead in the first period, beginning with McBain firing a shot low blocker side off a right wing feed at the 5:54 mark from Nikita Nesterenko for his third assist of the tournament.
McLaughlin tipped a shot pass from Helleson glove side on the power play three minutes later, and Posma finished a creative behind-the-net feed from Casey Carreau at 13:34.
Just 1:09 into the second, Warren side-stepped a loose stick at the offensive line and ripped a shot into the top corner for a 4-0 cushion. Dartmouth got on the board from Sean Chisolm at 2:32, but a tip from McBain and a rebound from St. Ivany made it a 6-1 game through two.
Boston College returns to Hockey East play next Saturday (Jan. 8) at Kelley Rink against UConn at 4 p.m.
