New Hampshire Falls To Dartmouth, 3-1, In Ledyard Classic

HANOVER, N.H. - Forward Jackson Pierson (Zionville, Ind.) scored for the Wildcats but the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to Dartmouth, 3-1, at Thompson Arena on Thursday evening on day one of the 32nd Ledyard Classic.

The Wildcats fall to 7-10-1, while the Big Green improve to 3-8-1.

No. 20 Boston College defeated Mercyhurst, 4-2, in the first game of the tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- At 15:29 of the first period, the Big Green took a 1-0 lead when Josh Waters fired a one-timer from the slot to the back of the net off a rebound on a shot by Trym Lokkeberg.

- The Wildcats tied the contest at 1-1 at 4:24 of the second period with a goal by Pierson.He stole the puck in the UNH defensive zone sending the Wildcats on a two-on-one as freshman forward Liam Devlin (Needham, Mass.) passed it to Pierson who wristed the puck from the slot to the glove side for his team-leading seventh goal of the season.

- The Big Green made the score 2-1 when Waters scored on a penalty shot for his second goal of the game at 2:02 of the third period.

- With 1:25 left in the third period, Braiden Dorfman scored an empty net goal to clinch the 3-1 win for the Big Green.


INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Junior goalie David Fessenden (Parker, Colo.) made 15 saves, while Clay Stevenson posted 40 to earn the win.

- UNH outshot the Big Green by a 41-18 margin.

- The Wildcats went 0-2 on the power play, while the Big Green went 0-1.
