AMHERST, Mass. - No. 8 Massachusetts hockey scored on the power play midway through the first and added a pair of insurance tallies late in the third to earn a 3-0 victory over New Hampshire on Friday night at the Mullins Center. The win moves the Minutemen to 7-3-1 overall and 5-1-1 in Hockey East action, while the Wildcats fall to 4-7-1 (2-5-1 HE).

UMass converted on its first opportunity with the man advantage at the 8:47 mark of the opening period. Junior Reed Lebster put a pass from below the goal line on the tape of senior Bobby Trivigno's stick as he came streaking into the zone for a quick wrister that found its way past UNH netminder David Fessenden. Freshman Scott Morrow earned an assist on the play, as well, his seventh of the year.

The Minutemen held firm to their one-goal lead, successfully killing off the lone Wildcats' power-play of the contest with under 10 minutes to go in the third. Senior Colin Felix then gave the squad some breathing room as his shot from the top of the faceoff circles found its way through traffic and into the New Hampshire net at 17:59 off a feed from senior Anthony Del Gaizo and sophomore Aaron Bohlinger.

Trivigno capped the scoring with his second of the night at the 19:18 mark, an empty net goal from senior Slava Demin for his team-leading sixth of the season.

UMass ended the night with a 27-21 advantage in shots and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Graduate Student Matt Murray totaled 21 saves in his 13th career shutout, adding to his program record, and Fessenden turned aside 24 in net for UNH.

The teams will be back in action tomorrow, November 20, with the second game of the weekend set scheduled for 7 p.m. in Durham, New Hampshire.
