CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Abby Newhook scored her second goal of the game 1 minute, 24 seconds into overtime, powering the No. 7 Boston College women's hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Providence College on Saturday night at Kelley Rink.

Newhook gave BC the 1-0 lead midway through the second period but the Friars responded before the break. After a scoreless third frame, Sidney Fess and Gaby Roy set up Newhook for the game-winning goal.

2nd, 7:48 | 1-0, BC GOAL: From the corner to the right of Mreille Kingsley, Abby Newhook took the puck and cut to the front of the goal, slipping a shot from the bottom of the circle through Kingsley's legs.

2nd, 17:08 | 1-1, PC GOAL: On the power play, Ciara Barone's point shot deflected off of Brooke Becker's skate and over to an open Lindsay Bochna for a finish at the right post.

OT, 1:24 | 2-1, BC GOAL: Sidney Fess chipped the puck to herself on the boards and carried it below the goal line where she fed Newhook for a one-time shot in the low slot.


GAME NOTES

- Boston College had the 42-38 lead in shots on goal ... Providence went 1-for-3 on the advantage while BC was 0-for-2.

- BC now holds a record of 40-41-3 in the all-time series with Providence since elevating to Division I status for the 1995-96 season ... the Eagles are now 21-18-2 against the Friars at Kelley Rink ... head coach Katie Crowley is now 33-10-3 in her career against Providence.
