BURLINGTON, Vt. - Senior forward Wyatt Bongiovanni scored the game-winning goal 13:27 into the second period as eighth-ranked Quinnipiac defeated Vermont 2-0 Saturday night in non-conference action from Gutterson Fieldhouse.


HOW IT HAPPENED

- In a tight-checking first period Tyler Harmon made seven saves for the Catamounts. UVM was two-for-two on the penalty kill, keeping everything to the outside. The Bobcats weren't able to generate on a shot on either power play chance.

- The Bobcats opened the scoring the just past the midway point of the second period. Ethan De Jong cut to the net and fired a hard-low shot that Harmon padded aside, unfortunately for Vermont the rebound came right to Bongiovanni and he stashed it home for his first goal of the season.

- With 27 seconds left in the middle frame a huge rebound in the Quinnipiac zone sprung the Bobcats Ty Smilanic on a breakaway. Harmon made a huge pad save along the post to keep it a one-goal game headed to third.

- Michael Lombardi scored an insurance marker for the Bobcats 6:54 into the third. In transition Lombardi cut to the left and picked the top right corner for his second goal of the year.

- Quinnipiac's Dylan St. Cyr made eight third period saves as the Catamounts pushed in the third period to earn his sixth career shutout and first with Quinnipiac.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Vermont alternate captain Jacques Bouquot led all skaters with five shots tonight.

- The Catamounts penalty kill was four-for-four tonight, this season they have allowed two power play goals in 12 attempts (83.3%).

- Three Vermont defenseman - Robbie Stucker, Cody Schiavon and Cory Babichuk were tied for the team-lead with two blocked shots.

- Tyler Harmon's 34 saves were a season-high by a Vermont goaltender.
