HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

Gunnarwolfe Fontaine scored 33 seconds into overtime and delivered a 3-2 win for Northeastern over Harvard in the Beanpot semifinals. Player of the Week Vinny Borgesi added two assists to his totals and how has 10 points in his last five games.

Macklin Celebrini potted two goals in his Beanpot debut and powered the Terriers offense to a 4-3 win over Boston College. Mathieu Caron made 34 saves to hold off a push by the Eagles offense late in the third period. Northeastern claimed a pair of wins over Top 5 opponents, downing No. 3 BU and No. 5 Maine last week. Vinny Borgesi led all NCAA defensemen with six points (1g, 5a) while Cameron Whitehead stopped 75 shots, the most in the NCAA.

Maine rebounded from a 6-3 setback at Northeastern with the first NCAA shutout from rookie Albin Boija, who made 15 saves in a 1-0 win on the road at No. 11 Massachusetts. Brandon Chabrier scored the lone goal.

Providence’s Philip Svedeback posted his league leading fifth shutout of the season with a 22-save blanking of UConn in a 5-0 win on Friday.

No. 17 New Hampshire took a weekend split thanks in part to Robert Cronin, who extended his point streak to four games (3g, 3a) with an assist against No. 3 BU before factoring in on all three goals (1g, 2a) in a 3-1 win over Merrimack.

UConn’s Hudson Schandor assisted on both goals in UConn’s 2-1 road win over No. 10 Providence on Saturday, while Ethan Haider made 41 stops for his second 40+ save performance of the year.

Vinny Borgesi - Northeastern

Vinny Borgesi (So., D; Philadelphia, Pa.) led Hockey East and was second in the nation as he racked up six points (1g, 5a) in a pair of wins over ranked opponents in No. 3 BU (3a) and No. 6 Maine (1g, 2a). Against BU, he set up three goals, two on the power-play, including the overtime winning goal in a nationally televised game on ESPNU. He then added two primary assists and a goal in a 6-3 win over Maine, including one at four-on-four and one on the power-play.

Macklin Celebrini (Fr., F; Vancouver, B.C.) tied for second in Hockey East as he posted a pair of two-point games with a goal and assist in both of the Terriers’ outings. He scored a power-play goal and had the primary assist on the extra-attacker goal that forced overtime on Tuesday at Northeastern. He then scored the game-winning goal at No. 17 New Hampshire and added a primary assist on the power-play.

Gabe Perreault (Fr., F; Hinsdale, Ill.) scored the game-winning goal on the power-play and set up two other goals for a three-point night in a 6-1 win over UMass Lowell.

Albin Boija (Fr., G; Sundsvall, Sweden) stopped all 15 shots he faced from No. 11 UMass on Saturday, posting his first career NCAA shutout in a 1-0 road win for the Black Bears.

Cameron Whitehead - Northeastern

Cameron Whitehead (Fr., G; Orleans, Ont.) played and started in both games for the Huskies as he finished with a .926 save percentage over the weekend. He made a total of 75 saves, the most in the country last week, against No. 3 BU (38) and No. 6 Maine (37). He is now 5-1-0 in his last six starts and has won four in a row.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Cutter Gauthier, BC (So., F; Scottsdale, Ariz.) Netted his league-leading 20th and 21st goals of the season in a 6-1 win over UMass Lowell on Friday night.

Eamon Powell, BC (Sr., D; Marcellus, N.Y.) Pushed his point streak to three games (1g, 3a) with a goal and an assist against UMass Lowell.

Jacob Fowler, BC (Fr., G; Melbourne, Fla.) Made 21 saves while allowing just one goal in a 6-1 win over UMass Lowell.

Jack Hughes, BU (Jr., F; Westwood, Mass.) Scored the opening two goals of an eventual 6-3 win at No. 17 UNH and then assisted on the game-winning strike.

Lane Hutson, BU (So., D; North Barrington, Ill.) Dished out three assists in a 1-1-0 week for BU.

Hudson Schandor, UConn (Sr., F; North Vancouver, B.C.) Assisted on both goals in UConn’s 2-1 road win over No. 10 Providence on Saturday.

Ethan Haider, UConn (Gr., G; St. Louis Park, Minn.) Had 41 saves in a 2-1 win at No. 10 Providence last Saturday.

Scott Morrow, UMass (Jr., D; Darien, Conn.) Had a goal and the primary assist on the game-winning strike in a 3-2 win over Merrimack.

Lucas Mercuri, UMass (Jr., F; Montreal, Que.) Scored the game-winning goal at 3:57 of the third period in a 3-2 win over Merrimack on Friday after setting up the opening strike of the contest just 3:45 into the first period.

Cole Hanson, ME (Jr., F; Grand Forks, N.D.) Found the back of the net twice in Friday’s setback to Northeastern, his first career two- goal game.

Josh Nadeau, ME (Fr., F; St-François-de-Madawaska, N.B.) Posted two points (1g, 1a) in a 6-3 setback at Northeastern on Friday.

Brandon Chabrier, ME (So., D; Bayville, N.Y.) Scored the lone goal of a 1-0 win at No. 11 UMass on Saturday night.

Matt Copponi, MC (Jr., F; Mansfield, Mass.) Picked up an assist in each of two outings for Merrimack against No. 11 UMass and No. 18 New Hampshire.

Robert Cronin, UNH (Jr., F; Plymouth, Mass.) Extended his point streak to four games (3g, 3a) with an assist against No. 3 BU before factoring in on all three goals (1g, 2a) in a 3-1 win over Merrimack.

J.P. Turner, UNH (Fr., F; East Falmouth, Mass.) Had the game-winning goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over Merrimack. Also added an assist against No. 3 BU.

Jack Williams, NU (So., F; Biddeford, Maine) Pushed his point streak to four games (4g, 4a) with two goals and an assist in a pair of wins over ranked opponents for Northeastern.

Justin Hryckowian, NU (Sr., F; L’Île-Bizard, Que.) Recorded a four-point week en route to helping the Huskies defeat #3 BU and #6/5 Maine, tallying one assist against BU, before adding one goal and two assists against Maine. He finished with seven shots, one blocks and 36 face-off wins and currently has six points (2g, 4a) in four consecutive games.
