HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

#4 Boston College extended its winning streak to seven games, the second- longest active streak in the country, with a pair of wins over Merrimack and at Boston University. The win on Saturday over the Terriers clinched the Hockey East regular season crown, the Eagles' 17th in program history.

Vermont won its first two games in league play last weekend, sweeping #13 Northeastern, 4-2 and 3-1. Friday's win was Kevin Sneddon's 300th win as a head coach and his 250th victory behind the Catamounts' bench. Alex Esposito (West Haven, Conn.) tallied a career-high three points behind two goals and an assist on Friday. He added an assist in Saturday's 3-1 win to finish the weekend with four points and a plus-two rating.

#8 Massachusetts clinched home ice in the quarterfinals during a homeand- home split with UConn. John Leonard (Amherst, Mass.) totaled six points on three goals and three assists, including his 27th goal of the season, which set a new UMass Division I single-season goals record. The his final tally on Saturday was also his 21st in Hockey East play, the most by any league player Cam Atkinson had 24 in 2010-11.

#13 UMass Lowell secured a crucial three points in league play in a 1-0-1 weekend with New Hampshire. Sophomore Sam Knoblauch (Rochester, Mich.) scored two goals on the weekend, opening the scoring for the River Hawks in both contests. Tyler Wall (Leamington, Ont.) stopped 50 of 54 shots he saw.

#19 Providence toppled #15 Maine, 3-2, at home on Saturday, inching closer to securing a playoff position. Jack Dugan (Rochester, N.Y.) scored a goal and added an assist, pushing his NCAA-leading point total to 52 on 10 goals and 42 helpers.

John Leonard - Massachusetts

John Leonard (Amherst, Mass.) totaled six points on three goals and three assists to help UMass clinch home ice for the Hockey East quarterfinals in a weekend split against UConn. The junior scored both UMass goals in the 3-2 road loss to the Huskies on Friday, picking up the 100th point of his career to become just the sixth member of the 50-goal, 100-point club in UMass history. In Saturday's 4-3 victory, he matched a career-best with four points with the game-winning goal and three assists. He is now riding a five-game goal streak.

Spencer Knight - Boston College

Spencer Knight (Darien, Conn.) the freshman goaltender capped his weekend with a 2-0-0 record, posting a 1.02 goals against average and .961 save percentage after saving 49 of the 51 shots he faced. On Saturday night, Knight kicked out 30 of 31 shots he faced from the Terriers at Agganis Arena, backboning the Eagles to a regular season title and pushing his winning streak to seven.

Stefanos Lekkas - Vermont

Stefanos Lekkas (Elburn, Ont.) stopped 53 of 56 shots in Vermont's weekend sweep over 13th-ranked Northeastern. The senior netminder finished the weekend with a .946 save percentage and 1.50 goals against average. With his 53 stops, he moved into eighth all-time on the NCAA saves list with 3,869.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Alex Newhook, BC (Fr., F; St. John's, New.) Racked up four points on two goals and two assists in a pair of wins over Merrimack and at Boston University, helping Boston College to the 2019-20 regular season championship. He finished with a plus-five on-ice rating with six shots on net. The rookie finished the weekend with a 10-game point streak with 10 goals and 11 assists over that span.

Matt Boldy, BC (Fr., F; Millis, Mass.) posted four points with two goals and two assists in an unbeaten week for the Eagles. He recorded two goals and an assist in a 6-1 win over Merrimack, his second consecutive outing with a 2-1--3 stat line. On Saturday, he helped the Eagles clinch the regular season championship with an assist. In his last nine games, Boldy has seven goals and nine assists for 16 points.

Carter Berger, UConn (Fr., F; Vancouver, B.C.) Posted a career-high three points to help the Huskies to a 3-2 comeback win on Friday night at home over the #8 Massachusetts. Berger scored his second goal on the season to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. He then set up both late goals at 1:31 and at 8.7 seconds to ignite the UConn comeback.

Sam Knoblauch, UML (So., F; Rochester, Mich.) Scored two goals in the three-point weekend vs. New Hampshire. The sophomore tallied the opening goal in each game for the River Hawks.

Tyler Wall, UML (Sr., G; Leamington, Ont.) Stopped 50 of 54 shots (.926 SV%) in the three-point weekend for the River Hawks. He posted 24 save in Friday's 2-2 tie and followed that up with a 26-save effort in the 3-2 road win on Saturday.

Alex Esposito, UVM (Jr., F; West Haven, Conn.) Tallied a career-high three points behind two goals and an assist in Vermont's 4-2 win over #12 Northeastern on Friday. He added an assist in Saturday's 3-1 win to finish the weekend with four points and a plus-two rating.

William Lemay, UVM (Fr., F: Marieville, Que.) Recorded two assists in Vermont's 4-2 win over Northeastern on Friday and added another helper in Saturday's 3-1 win to finish the weekend with three assists and with a plus-three rating.
