Hockey East Most Represented Conference in Stanley Cup Playoffs
54 Current NHL Players and 54 Front Office Staff Remain in the Hunt for Hockey's Top Prize

WAKEFIELD, Mass. - The Hockey East Association will once again be the most well-represented college hockey conference in the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs, as 108 league alumni, including 54 active players, remain in contention for the National Hockey League’s top prize. The impressive showing sets the stage for 2020-21 to be the first year in which 100 Hockey East alumni appear in the NHL, comprising nearly a third of the over 300 NCAA alumni who appeared in the NHL this season. A full list of players and staff can be found below.

Each of the 16 NHL clubs that qualified for the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs boast at least one Hockey East alumn on their current roster, guaranteeing that a Hockey East player will lift the Stanley Cup for the 10th consecutive season. Boston University’s Kevin Shattenkirk claimed the 2020 title with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The 54 players represent 10 different institutions while 11 league members are represented across both players and front office staff. Boston College leads the way with 11 alumni on Stanley Cup Playoff rosters, followed closely by Boston University’s 10 representatives. Maine and Providence each boast six former players seeking the Cup, while Massachusetts claims five, New Hampshire and Notre Dame both send four, UMass Lowell and Northeastern produced three, and Vermont sends two.

Overall, the Pittsburgh Penguins boast the most Hockey East alumni with nine, which makes up half of the 18 NCAA alumni the team used during the regular season. The 2016-17 Penguins that won the Stanley Cup had a record seven Hockey East players on the 2017 Stanley Cup Championship team.

During the 2020-21 regular season, 94 Hockey East alumni appeared in at least one NHL game, once again more than any other college hockey conference, and representing nearly one-third of the 302 NCAA alumni who skated in hockey’s top league last year.

The 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs continue tonight while the 2021 NHL Entry Draft is slated for July 23-24.
