HOCKEY EAST PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Tim Doherty - Maine
Senior Forward; Portsmouth, R.I.

Doherty was fifth nationally in January with 12 points on six goals and six assists in just six games played, recording at least one point in each contest. The senior forward led all of Hockey East with 12 points, 1.00 goals per game, 2.00 points per game, and 4.33 shots on goal per game. He factored in on three of Maine's five game-winning goals, scoring one and setting up two others, and also added the game-winning goal in a 2-0 exhibition contest on Jan. 11. He racked up five points (2g, 3a) in a weekend sweep at then-#5 Boston College Jan. 24-25 and ended the month of a six-game point streak.

PRO AMBITIONS ROOKIE OF THE MONTH

Vladislav Firstov - UConn
Forward; Yaroslavl, Russia

Among rookies, Firstov tied for second in the nation and first in Hockey East with nine points in the month of December. No freshman had more goals (5) than Firstov in the opening month of 2020 or was on the ice for more team goals (13). The forward finished with a nation-best plus-11 rating and 0.62 goals per game. Among his classmates in Hockey East, Firstov also led with two game-winning goals. The native of Yaroslavl, Russia, also scored two goals in UConn's 3-2 win at then-#12 Northeastern on Jan. 18 and enjoyed a four-point (1g, 3a) outing on Jan. 31.

STOP IT GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH

Ashton Abel - Boston University
Freshman; Fort McMurray, Alta.

Abel led all Hockey East goaltenders with a 1.68 goals against average, a .936 save percentage and one shutout in the month of January after joining the Terriers for the second semester. Abel was undefeated in his four starts, going 3-0-1 in games in which he was the starting netminder, and earned a 17-save shutout against then-#12 UMass Lowell in his first-ever home start on Jan. 24. He allowed two goals or fewer in each of his appearances.
