News and notes from the upcoming weekend of Hockey East action.

#3 Northeastern vs. UConn, vs. #10 Harvard

- UConn travels to #3 Northeastern to continue the Huskies' season series that kicked on Jan. 17-18. Northeastern shutout UConn in both games, 4-0 and 3-0, in the middle of the Boston team's five-game shutout streak.

- Northeastern recorded its fifth shutout in a row with a score of 4-0 over the Catamounts in Vermont followed by a high scoring 10-2 victory in game two last weekend. Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week, junior goaltender Aerin Frankel (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.), stopped 37 saves and put away her eighth shutout of the season.

- Sophomore forward Alina Mueller (Winterthur, Switzerland) led the NCAA in points after posting a goal and five assists over the weekend, including the first time in her career scoring five points in one game. She was named Hockey East of Player of the Week.

- UConn is coming off a weekend and series sweep of Maine (3-0-0). In game one, UConn found the back of the net twice and the Husky defense held off the Black Bears to take a 2-1 final. In the series finale, senior forward Catherine Crowley (Washingtonville, N.Y.) put two on the board, including the ultimate game-winner, and junior defenseman Taylor Wabick (Winnipeg, Man.) recorded two points (1g, 1a) and her fourth goal of the season.

- The annual Women's Beanpot is set to begin Tuesday night at Walter Brown Arena. Northeastern takes on Harvard at 5pm followed by Boston College and Boston University at 8pm. All games will air live on NESNplus.

- Last year Boston University battled then-#3 Northeastern in a 3-3 overtime draw and moved on to the championship in a 2-1 shootout advancement. Another overtime was needed the following week in the championship title to give the Terriers its first Beanpot title since 1981 as they defeated hosts Harvard, 3-2.


#7 Boston University vs. Vermont, vs. Boston College

- Vermont travels to #7 Boston University to face the Terriers for the first time since the two clashed Nov. 23-24 in Burlington. BU took both victories with a 3-2 overtime decision followed by a 5-2 win.

- BU junior forward Nora Elia (Saskatoon, Sask.) led the Terriers past the Catamounts with 1:06 remaining in overtime to secure two points in game one with a 3-2 win. Junior goaltender Corinne Schroeder (Elm Creek, Man.) recorded 21 saves in a 5-2 game two triumph that backboned the Terriers to a weekend sweep.

- Over the weekend, Terriers senior forward Deziray De Sousa (Montreal, Que.) tallied three points (1g, 2a) in a home-and-home series against Merrimack (T, 1-1 (OT), W, 6-3) to pick up her sixth point in her last five games.

- In their most recent outing, UVM junior forward Val Caldwell (Glenview, Ill.) and sophomore forward Theresa Schafzahl (Weiz, Austria) each scored a goal against Aerin Frankel to end the Huskies' five-game shutout streak.


Providence vs Merrimack, vs. UConn

- Receiving votes in the national polls this week, Providence College wraps up two regular-season series this weekend as the Friars host Merrimack (2-0-0) Friday night before traveling to UConn (1-1-0) to play the Huskies on the road Saturday.

- In their most recent outing, the Friars split a weekend home-and-home with Boston College. In game one at Conte Forum, the Friars fell behind by one goal in the first only to tie it up in the second off the stick freshman forward Isabelle Hardy (Oakville, Ont.) before falling in overtime. Game two in Providence saw better fortune for the home team, as sophomore goaltender Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) allowed just two goals and made 27 saves to backstop her team to a 5-2 victory.

- Merrimack College skated away with one point from #7 Boston University when the Warriors tied BU, 1-1, for the second time this season. The first time stalemate came on Oct. 11, when they tied the then-#10 Terriers, 2-2, on the road.

- Senior goaltender Léa-Kristine Demers (Repentigny, Que.) made 74 saves last weekend.


New Hampshire vs. Maine, vs. Dartmouth

- The Wildcats travel north to take on their border rivals for two games in Orono. Earlier this season, on Oct. 25, Maine shutout the Wildcats in Durham, 3-0. UNH sophomore goaltender Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) made 28 saves, but the Wildcats were unable to find the back of the net. Maine goaltender Loryn Porter (North Bay, Ont.) made 19 stops in the shutout win.

- UNH also prepares for a Tuesday night match up against in-state rival Dartmouth in the Wildcats' final non-conference game of the year. The Wildcats have won the last two times that they have faced the Big Green by a combined score of 8-1, and have an overall record of 11-5-1 dating back to 2005-06 season.

- In their most recent outing, New Hampshire defeated Holy Cross twice in a home-and-home series. Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week Nikki Harnett (Plymouth, Minn.) made 38 saves across two games, including a 17-save shutout on Friday, and picked up her first career point with an assist on Friday's third goal.
