News and notes from the upcoming weekend of Hockey East action.

Boston University vs. #6 Boston College, vs. #10 Harvard

- The Battle of Comm. Ave renews on Friday night at Walter Brown Arena as Boston University hosts #6 Boston College. The B-Line rivals last met in the 2019 Hockey East Tournament semifinals, a 5-1 victory for Eagles. The Terriers took the 2018-19 regular season from Boston College, 2-1-0.

- Boston University is off to a 7-3-1 overall start and just shy of the national rankings after a 2-1 road win in Providence last weekend. Terriers freshman forward Julia Nearis (Beverly, Mass.) has scored five goals in her last four games, including both tallies at Providence. For her efforts, she was named Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week.

- Most recently, the Terriers notched a 3-1 non-conference win over Yale (5-1-1) on Tuesday night off the back of sophomore goalie Kate Stewart (Chilliwack, B.C.) who recorded 30 saves in her second win of the season.

- Early next week Boston University is set to host #10 Harvard, a rematch of the 2019 Beanpot championship game that saw the Terriers win its first Beanpot title since 1981. Then-redshirt junior captain Sammy Davis (Pembroke, Mass.) scored in overtime to lift BU to the 3-2 victory at Harvard.


#4 Northeastern vs. New Hampshire (home and home), at #6 Boston College

- Northeastern looks to extend its three-game win streak as the Huskies close the regular season series with New Hampshire in a home and home series. The last time the two teams met, Wildcats junior goalie Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) stopped 45 shots but then-#3 Northeastern came out with a 4-1 win. In the Oct. 20 victory, NU sophomore forward Chloé Aurard (Villard-de-Lands, France) found the back of the net twice.

- Most recently, New Hampshire split a two-game set against Vermont. The Wildcats claimed victory Friday night thanks to sophomore defensemen Emily Rickwood (Brantford, Ont.) contributed to both goals of a 2-1 overtime victory with a goal and an assist on the game-winner. Boutilier stopped 44 shots (24 game one, 20 game two) to finish the regular season series with a 1-1-1 mark against the Catamounts.

- Tuesday night, two nationally ranked Hockey East teams face off for the first time this season. Both #4 Northeastern (8-1-0) and #6 Boston College (9-1-1) have only lost a single game and hold the two best overall records so far this season.

- Last time the Huskies and the Eagles met was the 2019 Hockey East Championship game when Boston College's then-freshman forward Kelly Browne (Burlington, Mass.) tied the game with 7.4 seconds on the clock to force the game into overtime. Northeastern's then-sophomore goaltender Aerin Frankel (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) lead the team to victory and recorded four saves in overtime (30 total) before Northeastern went on to win its second consecutive Bertagna Trophy as HEA Tournament Champions.


Maine vs. Providence, vs. UConn

- Both UConn and Providence hit the road and head north to visit Maine while both schools also host Vermont. Friday afternoon kicks off the match ups with Providence at Maine meeting for the first time this season. Last year the Friars finished the regular season series 2-0-1 over the Black Bears.

- Maine salvaged a weekend split, shutting out Holy Cross, 3-0, on Saturday thanks to a 28-save shutout from Carly Jackson (Amherst, N.S.). It was the Black Bears' fifth shutout of the year in just 10 games.

- The split was achieved with only 12 skaters on Maine's roster as the Black Bears were shorthanded due to injuries and international call ups.

- UConn is on a two-game winning streak after defeating Brown, 7-0, with the help of junior forward Natalie Snodgrass (Eagan, Minn.) and her five points (2g, 3a) and sophomore goaltender Samantha Carpentier-Yelle (Bromont, Qué.) recording her third career shutout on 12 saves.

- The Huskies also overcame then-#5 Boston College, 5-2, handing the Eagles their first loss of the season. Snodgrass recorded another goal in that contest, totaling six points on the weekend to earn Hockey East Player of the Week.


Vermont at UConn, at Providence

- Vermont split their weekend in New Hampshire after a goal in the third period from senior forward Ève-Audrey Picard (Longueuil, Qué.) forced the first game into overtime (L, 2-1 (OT)) and shutting out the Wildcats in game two (W, 1-0). Sophomore goaltender Blanka Škodová (Šternberk, Czech Republic) earned Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week stopping 46 of the 48 shots in their two game road trip and her first shutout of the season.

- Providence returns home from Maine to then face Vermont for the first time in 2019-20 in a Sunday afternoon contest after taking last year's series with a 2-1-0 mark. Overall, the two teams are 13-13-4 since 2011 against each other while the Friars have only lost once in the last six times they have played UVM.

- UConn kicks off its weekend hosting Vermont for the first time this season. The Huskies hold a winning record over Vermont overall with a 19-9-5 mark and have not lost to the Catamounts since the 2017-18 season. The last time the two teams faced each other on Feb. 9 of this year in Connecticut, ending in a 1-1 draw after both teams scored once in the opening period.


Merrimack vs. Holy Cross (home and home)

- Hockey East's two newest members, Merrimack and Holy Cross, meet for the first time this season in a home-and-home series to kick off the weekend on Thursday night on NESNplus.

- The Warriors hold a winning record over the Crusaders (3-0-0) since first meeting last November. In their first meeting, a 6-2 Warriors' victory was spurred on by then-freshman forward Gabby Jones (Westfield, Mass.), with two goals, and then-sophomore forward Dominika Laskova (Prague, Czech Republic) with two helpers.

- Warriors' senior forward Mikyla Grant-Mentis (Brampton, Ont.) earned four points (2g, 2a) in their single game last weekend, a 4-3 overtime win over Maine, including a game winning overtime goal. With the four points, Grant-Mentis became just the second Merrimack player to reach 100-career points.
