Grace Shirley (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) and Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) led the Friars with two points each. Hope Walinski finished the night with 14 saves.

GAME FLOW & NOTES

- Merrimack got on board first with a power play goal by Maria Lindberg 10:18 into regulation. Mary Edmonds and Teghan Inglis were each credited with an assist.

- Two minutes later the Friars responded with a powerplay goal as Lauren DeBlois (Lewiston, Maine) scored with help from Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Grace Shirley (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan).

- Both teams skated through the second period scoreless.

- Providence took a 2-1 lead eight minutes into the third period when Lily Hendrickson (Edina, Minn.) netted a goal. Maddy Coene (Clayton, N.Y.) and Kiara Kraft (Churchville, N.Y.) assisted the play.

- With 8:23 left in regulation, Ashley Clark (North Weymouth, Mass.) scored, 3-1, shorthanded after breaking the puck out of the defensive zone with help from Becker and Cristina Cavaliere (Mississauga, Ontario).

- Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) assisted Shirley to an empty netter with seven seconds left in regulation, making the final score 4-1.

- Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) finished the night with 14 saves.

The Friars travel to North Andover, Massachusetts tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 24 to finish up the home-and-home series against Merrimack College. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.

Providence has secured a bye in the first round of the Hockey East Tournament as the No. 5 seed. The Friars will be on the road in the quarterfinal round against either Boston College or New Hampshire.
